Marrakech to High Atlas and Berber Villages

We will pick you up at your hotel in Marrakech to start our day trip to discover the High Atlas.  As you make your way out of the Marrakech, you can’t help but be struck by the stunning views of the lush Palmeraie, a palm grove filled with thousands of palm trees. The ride is smooth, and your guide points out interesting sights along the way, sharing stories and history about the area.

As you ascend into the High Atlas Mountains, the views just get better and better. You’re surrounded by towering peaks, rolling hills, and terraced fields dotted with traditional Berber villages. Your guide shares that these villages have been inhabited for centuries by the Berber people, who have a rich cultural heritage and unique way of life.

We will stop at Lake Lalla Takerkoust, the one that supplies this arid region of Morocco with water. Then we will continue the visit to the village of Aguergour, where you will take Berber tea with an indigenous family who will make you discover its traditions. You will learn more about the customs of these nomadic people by visiting the beautiful valley of the Kik Plateau.

As you explore the village, you’re greeted by friendly locals who are more than happy to welcome you into their homes and share their way of life with you. You’re offered mint tea and traditional sweets, and you can’t help but feel a sense of warmth and hospitality.

You watch in amazement as the women of the village weave traditional textiles and rugs. It’s incredible to see how much skill and patience goes into each piece, and you even have the opportunity to try your hand at weaving! You’re amazed at how quickly you pick it up, and you can’t wait to bring back a piece as a souvenir.

Next, you head to a nearby mountain terrace, where you’ll enjoy a delicious traditional Berber lunch prepared by the local women. The food is simple yet flavorful, and you savor every bite while taking in the stunning views of the valley below.

After lunch, you continue your journey to a nearby waterfall. We will reach the village of Asni where a weekly Berber market takes place every Tuesday, then continue through the Sidi valley and pass in front of the ski resort of Oukaimden to reach the valley of the Ourika in the mountains of the Atlas with stunning views and enjoy taking a camel ride, (optional). After a ride on a camel, you will be driven to the end of the valley, where you will stop to meet your guide who will take you on a walk or hike in the 7 waterfalls of the Atlas.

As you hike through the lush landscape, your guide shares stories and history about the area, and you can’t help but feel a sense of awe at the beauty of your surroundings.

Finally, you reach the waterfall, and you’re struck by its beauty. The sound of the cascading water is music to your ears, and you can’t help but take a moment to soak it all in. You even have the opportunity to take a dip in the cool, refreshing water, which is a welcome break from the heat of the day.
